2019年も国境に寄らない音楽の聴き方をしていましたが、2020年はベスト100枚中38枚が非英語圏と、より多種多様な国/地域の音楽に夢中になりました。特にアフリカは10枚と今までで一番多く選出しており、今後も積極的に掘っていきたいと思います。
また振り返ってみて思うのが、UKジャズの勢いですね。コールドカット率いるKaleketla!をはじめに、オスカージェロームやモーゼスボイド、ヌバイアガルシアなど南ロンドンを拠点に精鋭が続々現れています。トムミッシュやロイルカーナーも構えるこの地域、もしかすると今一番音楽が熱い場所かもしれず、今後も目が離せません。
コロナ禍によって多くの芸術活動が制限されていますが、家で自分と向き合い録音したSongs From Home (Fred Hersch)や、一人で18人分の演奏を多重録音したMusic For 18 Musicians (Erik Hall)など、ステイホームの逆境を逆手に生まれた名盤もありました。
今後こうした状況が長引くことで音楽シーンにどういった変化を及ぼすか、願わくばコロナには早く退場頂きたいものですね。
